Omuro Gosyo 御室御所

Ninna-ji is a temple know for the latest blossoming cherry; the Omuro-zakura. Ninna-ji is the head temple of the Omuro branch of the Shingon sect of Japanese Buddhism. Due to its history of successive generations of imperial princes and members of the Imperial Family serving as its head priests, it is also called Omuro-Gosyo or the Omuro palace.

仁和寺は他の桜より遅れて咲く御室桜が有名です。真言宗の総本山で、歴代天皇の皇子や皇族が門跡を継いだことから、「御室御所」とも呼ばれています。

The National Treasure Kon-do(Golden Hall) 国宝金堂

The National Treasure Kon-do(Golden Hall), dedicated to an Amida triad (The Tathagata Amitabha flanked by two other Buddhist holy beings), is a former Hall for State Ceremonies from Gosho palace transferred and reassembled here. Among the buildings of this temple there is the five-storied pagoda donated by Tokugawa Ieyasu, a sutra repository, a prayer hall dedicated to Avalokitesvara(Kannon-do), and the Miei-do(Image Hall dedicated to the image of a holy person), the former Seiryo-den palace pavilion transferred and reassembled here.

境内に本尊の阿弥陀如来三尊を祀る金堂は、御所の紫宸殿を移築したもので国宝に指定されています。他には徳川家康が寄進した五重塔、経蔵、観音堂、御所の清涼殿を移築した御影堂などがあります。

The Omuro-Zakura 御室桜

The Omuro-Zakura cherry trees which come into blossom in late spring are also known as Otafuku-Zakura. With the trees being short in stature and the cherry blossoms hanging low to the ground, this naming comes from the old saying regarding attractive women with flat noses bringing much good luck or otafuku.

境内で晩春に咲く御室桜は、丈が低く花が地面に近いことから、鼻が低く愛嬌ある女性の面・お多福になぞらえて「お多福桜」とも呼ばれています。
