Kodai-ji 高台寺

Kita no Mandokoro (Nene) 北政所 ねね

Kita no Mandokoro (Nene) was the official wife of the warlord Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who achieved the unification of the country during the Period of the Country at War(Sengoku Period). It was she who had this temple built for Hideyoshi`s memory and to pray for his post-mortem repose and salvation.
戦国時代に天下統一を成し遂げた武将・豊臣秀吉の正室(妻)である北政所ねねが、秀吉の菩提を弔うために創建した寺です。
Kobori Ensyu 小堀遠州

The garden, created by the famous garden designer Kobori Ensyu, use the Higashiyama mountains as borrowed scenery to achieve a refined elegance in form and structure.
有名な作庭家である小堀遠州が造った庭園は、東山の山々を借景にした優美な造りになっています。
The Kaizan-do 開山堂

The Kaizan-do (a worship hall commemorating the founding of the temple) is richly and beautifully decorated. On the walls there are brilliantly colorful paintings of the Kano School, a school of Japanese style painting (Nihon-ga) which existed from the Muromachi period.
開山堂は、きらびやかな装飾が施され、壁面には室町時代から続く日本画の流派・狩野派の極彩色の絵が描かれています。
Tamaya & Kasa-tei & Shigure-tei 霊屋・傘亭・時雨亭

There is also the Otama-ya (a kind of mausoleum typical among warlords of Hideyoshi`s time onward, literally: house of spirit) dedicated to the memory of Hideyoshi and Nene, and the Kasa-tei and Shigure-tei, teahouses designated by the great tea master Sen no Rikyu.
その他には、秀吉とねねを祀る霊屋、茶の湯の大家である千利休が設計した茶室の傘亭、時雨亭もあります。
