国際的観光都市である京都は町全体が世界遺産といっても過言ではありません。どこに行ったらよいか迷われている方もいらっしゃると思いますので、おすすめの神社について紹介させていただきます。

神社には「式内社」（しきないしゃ）と「式外社」（しきげしゃ）があります。延喜５年（９０５年）に編纂が開始された「延喜式神名帳」の神名帳に記載された神社を「式内社」と呼び、それ以外は「式外社」となります。

The shrine has “Shikinaisha” and “Shikigaisha”. The shrine described in the Shinmei Book of “Enki Shinmei Book”, which was compiled in 905, is called “Shikinaisha”, and other than that, it is “Shikigaisha”.

「神名帳」は古代律令制における神祇官が作成した官社の一覧表のことです。全国で２８６１社あり、鎮座する神の数は３１３２座です。「式内社」には「官幣社」と「国幣社」があり、「官幣社」は祈年祭に神祇官から奉幣があり「国幣社」は祈年祭に国司（地方官）から奉幣があります。祈年祭では五穀豊穣を祈念しました。

“Shinmei book” is a list of the shrine created by officer who conduct imperial court ritual in the ancient ritsuryo system. There are 2,861 shrines nationwide, and the number of gods enshrined is 3,132 seats. “Shikinaisha” has “Kanheisya” and “Kokuheisya”, and “Kanheisya” is dedicated from the officer who conduct imperial court ritual to the prayer year festival, and “Kanheisha” is dedicated from the local goverment in the prayer year festival. We prayed good harvest at The Prayer Year Festival .

「式外社」は当時の朝廷の勢力範囲外の神社や「熊野那智大社」のように独自の勢力を持った神社や「石清水八幡宮」のように僧侶が管理した神社がふくまれています。

“Shikigaisha” includes shrines outside the power range of the imperial court at that time, shrines with unique powers such as “Kumano Nachi Taisha”, and shrines managed by monks such as “Iwashmizu Hachimangu Shrine”.

やがて「延喜式神名帳」に記載がなくても広く崇敬を集めて朝廷から奉幣のあった神社二十二社が定められるようになりました。二十二社は「上七社」「中七社」「下八社」に分類されています。

22 shrines with consecration from the imperial court began to be established without mentioning it in the “Enki Shinmei book”. 22 shrines are classified into “Upper 7 shrines”, “Middle 7 shrines”, and “Lower 8 shrines”.

「上七社」には「伊勢神宮」（内宮・外宮）「石清水八幡宮」「賀茂神社」（上賀茂神社・下賀茂神社）「松尾大社」「平野神社」「伏見稲荷大社」「春日大社」の七つで、「伊勢神宮」と「春日大社」以外の五つは京都に所在しています。

“Upper 7 shrines” include “Ise Jingu” (inner shrine and outer shrine), “Iwashmizu Hachimangu Shrine”, “Kamo Shrine” (Kamigamo Shrine and Shimogamo Shrine), “Matsuo Daisha”, “Hirano Shrine”, “Fushimi Inari Daisha”, and “Kasuga Daisha”, and five other than “Ise Jingu” and “Kasuga Daisha” are located in Kyoto.

「中七社」のうち「大原野神社」は京都に存在しますが、これ以外は「大神神社」「石上神社」「大和神社」「廣瀬神社」「龍田神社（奈良県）住吉大社（大阪府）です。

Among the “Middle-7 shrines”, “Oharano Shrine” exists in Kyoto, but other than this, “Ogami Shrine”, “Ishigami Shrine”, “Yamato Shrine”, “Hirose Shrine”, “Tatsuta Shrine ” exists in Nara Prefectureand and ” Sumiyoshi Daisha ” exists in Osaka Prefecture.

「下八社」のうち「梅宮大社」「吉田神社」「八坂神社」「北野天満宮」「貴船神社」が京都に存在し、これ以外は「日吉大社」（滋賀県）「廣田神社」（兵庫県）「丹生川上神社」（奈良県）です。

Among “Lower-8 shrines”, “Umemiya Daisha”, “Yoshida Shrine”, “Yasaka Shrine”, “Kitano Tenmangu Shrine”, and “Kifune Shrine” exist in Kyoto, and the other shrines are “Hiyoshi Daisha” (Shiga Prefecture), “Hirota Shrine” (Hyogo Prefecture) and “Nyu Kawakami Shrine” (Nara Prefecture).

二十二社のうち半分の十一社が京都に存在しています。桓武天皇が平安遷都を決定した時から摂関政治の最盛期にかけてその地位は確立されてゆきます。二十二社のうち十六社は「式内社」です。「式外社」から選定されたのは「吉田神社」（藤原氏の氏神）「廣田神社」（皇室の守護神）「北野天満宮」（北野の怨霊と神験）「梅宮大社」（摂関家の推挙）「八坂神社」（疫病退散の神徳）「日吉大社」（比叡山延暦寺の守護神）です。

Half of the 22 shrines are in Kyoto. The position was established from the time emperor Kanmu decided to move to the Heian period to the peak of Sekkan politics. 16 companies of 22 companies are “Shikinaisha”. Selected from “Shikigaisha” are “Yoshida Shrine” (Fujiwara’s Deity), “Hirota Shrine” (Guardian Deity of the Imperial Family), “Kitano Tenmangu Shrine” (Kitano’s Grudge and Divine Trial), “Umemiya Daisha” (Recommended by the Fujiwara family), “Yasaka Shrine” (Divine virtues of plague withdrawal) and “Hiyoshi Daisha” (guardian deity of Hieizan Enryakuji Temple).
