インバウンド　祭り　Traditional Matsuri

Traditional Matsuri are held all over Japan. Mainly they are held in spring to pray foe abundant crops, and in autumn to show thanks for good harvests. However, in Tohoku and other areas, the big festivals are concentrated in in summertime. For example, Kyoto`s Gion Festival and Daimonji Fire Festival are both held in summer. Prayers are offered for the elimination of disease and pestilence. In addition, each area has its own fireworks display and Obon festival dance.

日本各地で伝統的な祭りが開かれています。主に、祭りは豊作を祈る春と豊作に感謝する秋に行われます。しかしながら、東北地方や他の地域において、夏場にも大きな祭りが集中しています。例えば、京都の祇園祭や大文字の送り火は、どちらも夏に行われます。疫病退散を祈願します。そして夏には各地で花火大会や盆踊りが開催されます。

インバウンド　祭り　Sacred Festival

Matsuri are essentially sacred festivals, so both the local Shinto shrine congregation and the people take leading roles. It is all very formal, and strict rules about the proceedings are already set. Local people carry a portable shrine called mikoshi on their shoulders. However, in recent years with declining population, there are not enough locals to do it. Therefore, it is increasingly common to invite participants from other areas. Some even encourage spectators to join in on the spot. So even foreign visitors, who have just come to watch, can participate and enjoy the festival.

祭りは本来神聖なもので、地域の神社の氏子や地域住民が重要な役割を担います。全てにおいて組織的で、手順についての厳しい規則が既に決まっています。地域の人は、神輿と呼ばれる持ち運び出来る神社を肩に担ぎます。しかしながら近年では、人口減少のため、神輿を担ぐ人が不足しています。そういった理由から、他の地域からの参加を歓迎する所も増えてきています。 見学に来た人がその場で参加出来ることもあります。それ故に外国人観光客も参加して楽しむことが出来るのです。

インバウンド　祭り　Enjoy the festival

People will probably lend you a happi (a short festival robe), a yukata (a casual summer kimono), or a headband to help brighten up the festival. What is more, they will probably teach you the dance, and let you beat the drums. And I am sure they will offer you some ceremonial sake, too. Therefore you should not be shy. but rather join the group and actively enjoy the festival.

人々は、祭りを盛り上げるための法被(祭り用の小さなローブ)や浴衣(略式の夏用着物)や鉢巻を貸してくれるでしょう。踊りを教えてくれたり、太鼓を叩かせてくれるでしょう。お祝いの日本酒を飲ませてくれるでしょう。それ故に、恥ずかしがらずに仲間に入り、積極的に祭りを楽しんでください。

インバウンド　祭り　The official stalls

On the approach to the shrine and in its open space, there are lines of yatai. These are the official stalls where you can buy lots of food, toys, and games. Videos of most famous Japanese festivals can be seen on You Tube and other such website. So to avoid missing any of the fun, make sure you gather information beforehand.

神社の参道や広場には、屋台が並びます。これらは、食べ物やオモチャやゲームを買うことが出来る公認のお店です。日本のほとんどの有名な祭りは、You Tubeなどのサイトて見ることができます。楽しむポイントを逃さないように、事前に情報収集して下さい。
